The election didn’t turn out as we hoped, but we gave it our best shot. Thank you to everyone who contributed time and money to the Save Lane Extension campaign. We took the “high road” throughout the campaign and everyone who participated should be proud of the role you played.

Extension has announced its plans for closure. This is a sad day for all of us, but it’s clear that this outcome is the voters will. Official results are available on the Lane County Elections Web site.

We are now less than 12 hours from the end of this election. If you have not yet returned your ballot, please VOTE “YES” on Measure 20-158 and deliver your ballot to the nearest Lane County drop box location by Tuesday, May 18 at 8 p.m.

Because voter turnout has been relatively low—only 26% as of Monday evening—every vote is going to be important. YOUR “YES” VOTE COULD BE THE VOTE THAT DECIDES THIS ELECTION.

We want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed time or money to our efforts with an election night gathering at Cozmic Pizza, 199 West 8th Avenue in Eugene. Join us for a celebration of our accomplishments and follow election night results as they are reported from 8-11 p.m. Light snacks and cake will be served and you may purchase pizza and beverages from our hosts at Cozmic Pizza!

Five Days to Save Lane Extension!

Less than 20 percent of Lane County’s registered voters have returned their ballots. We urge you to vote YES on Measure 20-158, return your ballot to any of Lane County’s drop box locations, and encourage your friends to do the same.

Do you know an OSU or UO student who is registered to vote in Lane County? Encourage them to vote YES on Measure 20-158 and to return their ballot no later than Tuesday, May 18 at 8 p.m.

Also, we need as many volunteers as we can gather to wave signs at key intersections between now and next Tuesday. Even an hour of volunteer time can make a difference! Learn how you can help in the most recent issue of Save Lane Extension E-News.

Volunteers Work to Raise Awareness

Save Lane Extension supporters took to the streets on Monday to show their support for Extension and Measure 20-158. Reports from the field indicate motorists have been friendly and very supportive of our cause.

We hope you will consider volunteering to wave signs in the days ahead. Groups of three or four people together in each sign-waving location is ideal, as it shows the strength and unity of our campaign. We have just two weeks left until the ballots are counted. Let’s get out there and do everything we can to make sure we don’t lose Extension in Lane County!

There’s a lot going on right now. Check out the Register-Guard’s article about Extension and Measure 20-158 that appeared in Thursday’s newspaper. If you haven’t yet subscribed to Save Lane Extension E-News, explore our archive, scroll to the bottom of any newsletter, and select the “Join Our Mailing List” button. Also, if you can get away over the lunch hour on Friday, join us at this week’s City Club of Eugene meeting entitled “Save the Extension Service?” Admission is $5 and includes light refreshments.

Look for your ballot this weekend and don’t forget to vote “YES” on Measure 20-158. Once you’ve voted, we hope you will consider helping us distribute our remaining yard signs in strategic locations. The weather is supposed to be sunny this weekend, so we hope you can spare an hour or two to help out. Looking ahead to next week, we need people to wave signs during the Monday and Tuesday commutes. We’re in the Home Stretch

Saturday is a big day for the Save Lane Extension campaign. We will have booths at the Lane County Master Gardener Association’s Garden Fair and Plant Sale (OSU Extension Service office, 950 W. 13th Avenue in Eugene) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the 2010 Earth Day Celebration (EWEB’s River Edge Plaza) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We will have window signs for area businesses, yard signs for people who live on busy streets, and buttons for everyone who wants one! Ballots will be mailed near the end of next week, so it’s time to ramp things up. If each of our supporters volunteers just two hours of time over the next three weeks, the odds of Measure 20-158 passing will increase significantly. You can sign up to volunteer at either of our booths. Hope to see you on Saturday!

Oregon State University has issued a news release pertaining to recent misinformation being spread by an opponent of Measure 20-158.

Campaign Newsletter Subscriptions Soar

Thank you to everyone who has subscribed to Save Lane Extension E-News. We had no idea how many of you would share our e-newsletter with your friends, and how many of your friends would share it with their friends. We are grateful for your help in spreading the word. This is the way successful grassroots campaigns work!

The Lane County Elections office will mail ballots for the May 18 primary election in less than three weeks. For that reason, we are asking all of our subscribers to share your latest issue of Save Lane Extension E-News with at least five of your friends who are NOT involved with Extension. Explain in your e-mail message why you feel Extension is important and encourage them to subscribe to Save Lane Extension E-News. Here’s how it’s done:

Locate the latest issue of Save Lane Extension E-News in your e-mail’s “Inbox.”
Scroll to the bottom of that issue and click on the “Forward e-mail” link.
Enter the e-mail addresses of five friends who are NOT involved with Extension.
Add a personal message that briefly explains why you think Extension is important and encourage your friend to subscribe to Save Lane Extension E-News.
Click the “Submit” button.

Our goal is to exceed 10,000 subscribers by the end of April, but we need your help to reach that goal! If each of our subscribers takes five minutes to help us with this task, we will be well on our way to surpassing our goal. Thanks for all that you are doing to help us Save Lane Extension. Learn how to taste and evaluate both red and white wines like the pros with tips shared by vineyard owners Robin and Danuta Pfeiffer. Only 50 tickets will be sold for this special event, so don’t miss out.
